Day 1. Arrive in Galway

Accommodation: 4 star Luxury Hotel in Galway

Arrive to Dublin Airport where you will be greeted and transferred to your 5 star accommodation in Galway. The hotel is nestled peacefully on a stunning 138 acre estate on the banks of Lough Corrib, just outside Galway city. Spend the afternoon and evening exploring the narrow pedestrian medieval streets. Galway has an excellent selection of traditional Irish pubs, most of which will have music and story-telling in the summer evenings. Enjoy an evening meal in one of Galway’s finest restaurants before retiring for the night.

Day 2. The Heart Of Connemara, where the cycling begins

We will greet you at the hotel in the morning and brief you on the cycling tour and arrange the fitting of bikes. We will then drive out of the city to the start of the cycle in Connemara, an area rich in ancient culture and stunning natural beauty. From the starting point you will cycle to the village of Cong, home of the elegant 800 year old Ashford castle. The village if also the site of the famous Cong Abbey dating from the 9th century. Spend the day and evening exploring the village and castle grounds. Spend the night in the 4 star Lodge at Ashford Castle.

Day 3 – Cycle through Joyce Country to Leenane

A lone walker enjoys the most famous cycling route through the infamous doolough valley in Ireland
After a hearty breakfast you will cycle through the ancient forest in Cong and onwards through a quiet but spectacular valley in what is locally known as Joyce Country. This glacial valley is supremely quiet and perfect to explore by bike. The surrounding hillsides provide dramatic vistas and a haunting glimpse into the tragic story of the Irish famine which ravaged this area in the mid 19th century. Continue to the village of Leenane, situated on the only fjord on the island of Ireland. After a short break proceed to you historic country house accommodation where you can relax and unwind in the peaceful surroundings.

Day 4 – Cycle along the Atlantic coast to the town of Clifden

Kylemore Abbey nestled lakeside, at the foot of a mountain to visit on a cycling tour of Ireland
From your hotel, continue south along the Atlanitc coast. This route offers panoramic views of the rugged, stunningly beautiful coastal scenery. Visit the famous Kylemore Abbey and victorian botanical gardens before continuing through the Connemara National Park to the town of clifden where you will spend the night.

Day 5 – Visit the famous Aran Islands

Accommodation: Hotel on the Aran Islands
Cycling distance: 20km min up to 80km. Car transfer to ferry optional.

In the morning, you will cycle along the famous bog road with stunning views of the Connemara mountains and onwards through south Connemara to the ferry port of Rossaveal where you will take the ferry to the Aran Island. The islands are an extension of the limestone landscape found in the Burren and the quiet roads of the island are ideal for cycling. The small fields with their wild flowers and the maze of oddly-shaped stone walls are a joy to explore. You will visit Dun Aengus, one of Ireland’s most spectacular pre-historic sites. You will spend the night in one of the best hotels on the island.

Day 6 – Ferry to the mainland and the Cliffs of Moher

Accommodation: 4 star Luxury Lodge in the Burren
Cycling distance: 40km min up to 60km

In the morning, you will catch a ferry ferry east to the town of Doolin. From here you will visit the world renowned Cliffs of Moher, which extend for 7km from the village of Doolin. After visiting the cliffs you will cycle north along the spectacular Burren coast to pleasant town of Ballyvaughan. Your exquisite country house accommodation is short cycle from village in the heart of the Burren.

Day 7 – Explore the Burren and return to Galway

Cycling distance: 30km min up to 60km
The ancient portal tomb of Poulnabrone dolmen, standing proudly in the summer flowers, a place of wonder to enjoy while cycling in Ireland.
Today you will cycle into the heart the Burren and visit many ancient and historic sites including Poulnabrone Dolmen which dates from 3,000BC. Continue through this unique limestone landscape, stopping for lunch in a quaint local cafe and botanic gardens before being collected and transferred the short distance back to Galway where you will spend the final night of the tour.
